Interview with Up-and-Coming Singer Nick Brose

Justin Timberlake.  Bruno Mars.  Robin Thicke.  Nick Brose.

On the outside Nick Brose,18, comes off as your typical college kid.  He lives in a dorm and is studying physical education.  But what many do not know is that he is an up-and-coming vocalist.  Brose not only posses the drive to make it as a successful soloist, but also the talent.  emme sits down with Brose about his love of music and trying to land a recording contract.

Let’s go back to the beginning:

I started singing when I was in elementary school.  I loved it so much but gave up on my dream of becoming a singer.  When I was in high school, I watched some YouTube videos of recording artist Tyler Warren, and though to myself, “I could do that!”  I then began putting covers on YouTube.  I received very positive reviews and decided this is something that I really wanted.

On Writing:

I write all of my own music.  I write about whatever comes to mind at the time.  First I create a rhythm and a beat, and the lyrics usually come in afterwards.  I like to write about drama that is happening in my life… and mostly girls.  Come on, I am 18!  Girls are always on the brain. 🙂

On Performances:

Shortly after I started making music, I was given the opportunity to perform a few songs at my senior homecoming.  Because of this, I was able to perform at my prom.  Over the summer, I organized the Lake Geneva Music event.  It was a six act concert and I was the closing act.  All of the profit went to charity, and I was able to get my name known.  The event was a tremendous success and I hope to do more shows such as this in the future.

How to Deal with Negativity:

If I worry about what everyone thinks of my music, I would go crazy.  Sure, there might be one person who doesn’t like my music, but 500 other people do.  I know that I am confident in what I am doing and I refuse to listen to negative words.  People love to hate.

On Stage Fright:

I used to have stage fright, but not anymore.  I realize that if I didn’t have the talent, I wouldn’t be performing in front of a new crowd.

iTunes, iTunes, iTunes!

I am really excited that my music is currently being sold on iTunes.  In order to get your music on iTunes, you have to be considered an indie artist. Once I did that, I was able to upload my current single.  Don’t forget to check out my music on iTunes!

Would you try out for ‘American Idol’?

I have known people with the most amazing voices who have not even made it to the three main judges.  The people who usually make it to the  main competition have a story to tell.  If you don’t have a story, you rarely get to a certain level.  Also they let through a lot of “bad” singers for entertainment, which makes a fool out of them.

On Being Driven:

The best advice I got was from a fellow recording artist.  He told me that if I really want something, grab it by the horns and go after it.  It is better to please yourself than other people.

For the future:

I love my music more than anything, but I am also focusing on school.  I am trying to do anything that I can to put my music out there for the world to hear!  I am willing to take every singing opportunity that comes my way.  My dream is to go after this, but still have fun.  I would like to organize some type of music event at my university and eventually land a recording contract.
