The Legend of Valentine’s Day

by Maryann Pisano on February 12, 2013

Legend has it that Valentine’s Day was named after a Christian priest, Valentine.  Around the year 270 A.D., Valentine helped countless couples secretly marry against the Emperor’s wishes.

Because of this, the Emperor put Valentine in jail, and wanted him put to death.  In jail, Valentine had become friends with the jailer’s daughter who was blind.  Before he died, he gave her a card saying, “From your Valentine.”
