Sometimes, Sugar Isn’t So Sweet– Glucose Is Better

by Maryann Pisano on April 30, 2014

Of course, we all love sugar.  Who doesn’t?  But what type of sugar is better for us?  Glucose– which is made when the body breaks down starches such as carbs– and fructose — the type of sugar found naturally in fruits– obviously effect our bodies differently.  Studies show that consuming too much fructose can actually put you at greater risk for heart disease and diabetes than ingesting similar amounts of glucose.  “Glucose isn’t as sweet as fructose, and because our collective sweet teeth have become accustomed to a certain level of sweetness, anything less might be unsatisfying.”  According to a survey, Americans drink 16% of their daily energy needs with sugared drinks.
