My First Kiss Went a Little Like This

Now that I’m an adult, my love life is not nearly as exciting as it used to be when I was a teenager.  There was just something special about flirting with the guy that you liked on AIM, having him sign your yearbook, or hearing from another friend that he liked you back.  Sigh… those were the days!

When I was in eighth grade, I walked to school with my friend, Alicia.  We were going back to school in the evening to help set up the gym for our eighth grade dinner dance.  As were approaching school, one of the teachers and her sons walked out of the building.  Her son’s name was Mark.  The moment I saw Mark, my heart literally dropped.  The whole world began to stand still, and my stomach was doing flip flops.  Mark was older than me, with dark hair and eyes and broad shoulders.  Not only was he gorgeous, he was smart.

After I graduated eighth grade, and summer was in full swing, I got an instant message from him on AIM (so 2000’s!) and he asked me if I wanted to get ice cream.  Of course, I said YES!  I spent my entire summer with him.  We walked to the park, went out for lunch, and talked on the phone for hours.  I was so enamored with Mark.  Never in my life had I liked a guy so hunky and he liked me back.

One day in August, Mark came over to my house to hang out and play basketball.  We were in my backyard and thunder began to rumble across the sky.  Within minutes of the thunder, the rain began to fall around us.  In order to stay dry, we ran into my garage.

My garage was dark, and the rain splattered against the roof.  Mark and I were all alone.

“I really want to kiss you right now,” he whispered.

“I really want you to kiss me,” I replied.

Mark gave me my very first kiss at that moment.  Mark made it so special of me.  Now that I’m approaching 30, it’s a moment that I’ll always cherish and never forget.
