A high fever, a cough and body aches — these are all flu symptoms as well as COVID-19 symptoms. So, no big deal, right? Wrong! According to washingtonexaminer.com, COVID-19 is actually very different than the regular flu.

  • There isn’t a vaccine or medicine for COVID-19 — Unlike the flu, there isn’t a vaccine or medicine for COVID-19. Doctors are able to reduce the severity of the seasonal flu with vaccines and medicine. Without medicine or a vaccine, people are susceptible to COVID-19.
  • There’s an incubation period of around 14 days — COVID-19 has a incubation period of around 14 days, with people having mild or no symptoms at all. So, they could be infecting people without even knowing it and spreading it to many others.
  • COVID-19 is more fatal than the flu — According to estimates from China, 2.3% of those who caught COVID-19 died. If 20% of Americans caught Coronavirus, at a 1% fatality rate, it would mean 510,000 deaths. The seasonal flu has a fatality rate of of 0.1%.
